FRI, FEB 9TH: We will recognize 7th-11th grade students who scored above benchmark on Winter MAPS testing at halftime of the girls' varsity game this Friday. Students recognized will have scored above benchmark on one, two, three, or all four tests taken (Language Usage, Reading, Science, and Math). We have six that scored in the highest category on ALL FOUR TESTS: Makenna Freitag, Lillee Poisel, Danica O'Neal, Landyn Tuma, Logan Lowery, and Hutch Vacek. That is impressive! Students receiving recognition and two adults will be admitted free of charge to the game on Friday.

The week of February 5th is National School Counseling Week, and DPS is fortunate to have two staff members in our counselor's office that we are very thankful for! Mrs. Stacie Heldt is our guidance counselor and Mrs. Hannah Kane is our youth outreach specialist who assists Mrs. Heldt in many ways. These two have guidance lessons with preschool through middle school; have started the aRise Up, Character Kids, and Lair Leaders' groups; recognized Students of the Week; and helped tremendously with our MTSS process, as well as hosting student-centered events such as the Poverty Simulation, Lunch N Learn with community leaders, and FAFSA completion for our seniors. We are lucky to have you, Mrs. Heldt & Mrs. Kane...thank you for all that you do!

We visited the Senior Center yesterday and worked on creating Valentine's for the windows. Participating in intergenerational programs can help build meaningful relationships and may decrease social isolation and increase older adults' sense of belonging, self-esteem, and well being, while also improving social and emotional skills of children. We look forward to this outing every month!

We had so much fun with this STEM activity. We worked together to build igloos with shaving cream and re-usable ice cubes! This activity promoted creativity, critical thinking and problem solving.

The JH choir students presented their research and perform projects this week. Each group picked one of their favorite bands to research. They presented their research to the class and then perfomed their favorite song by that band. Great job!
