After a packed three days at State FFA, the electric car team members headed back to Lincoln on Saturday morning for racing. The team of Brent Buescher and Kris Collins received Best Pit Crew. They are headed to Hastings this coming Saturday with Coach Sam Hoops. Congrats, team!

Several Deshler FFA members worked very hard to earn a place on stage during the awards session of the Nebraska FFA Convention. Our Floriculture Team placed 4th in the state out of 60. Danessa Buckles placed 4th and Danica Buckles placed 10th. Ava Kniep and Brooklynn Wit both received red ribbons. There were 240 individuals in the contest. 💐
Gracie Erickson also had a great welding contest. She came home with a 3rd place medal from the Oxy-Acetylene portion of the contest. There were 60 individuals in her process. 👩🏭
Congratulations to these hardworking members!

Calling all future cheerleaders!

9 Deshler FFA members were awarded their State FFA Degree at Nebraska FFA Convention. These students have demonstrated outstanding leadership in our chapter and have shown dedication to their Supervised Agricultural Experiences. Congratulations! 🔵🌕

The sixth graders finished their service project. They wrote birthday cards to the Blue Valley Nursing Home residents. Many stickers and flair pens were involved!

Four Deshler staff members attended the Autism Spectrum Disorder Network's two day conference in Kearney this week. They learned lots of new strategies on how to better serve students in our district.

✨🎓SENIOR SPOTLIGHT!🎓✨
Meet Tregan!

How many eggs can you stack? That was the challenge for preschoolers today! They used play dough and eggs to see how many eggs they could stack. This took quite a bit of determination, as it was tricky!

DUAL CREDIT REGISTRATION:
Mon, Apr 7th at 12:01 AM - classes open for dual credit
Classes are on a first come, first serve basis (many fill up, such as Public Speaking)
All students should have classes ADDED already in The Hub, and would then just need to click REGISTER on Mon, Apr 7th.
More information can be found here: https://www.southeast.edu/academics/register-online-instructions.php or see Mrs. Kane BEFORE FRIDAY.

DUAL CREDIT INFORMATION FROM THE HANDBOOK:
Deshler Public Schools acknowledges that dual credit classes are college preparatory classes for the more independent learner. For that reason, ALL of the following prerequisite requirements (4) must be met to enter a dual credit class(es) during a student’s 10th - 12th grade years:
✅GPA: At least a 3.0 GPA (established after your first year of high school)
✅Age: Be at least of sophomore status in high school
✅Attendance: No major attendance issues (where there has been a loss of credit in the current school year due to lack of regular attendance at DPS)
✅On Track for a High School Diploma: Students must be on track to graduate with their cohort class to earn their high school diploma.
➕Additionally, one of the following must be met (or a parent waiver signed) to take a dual credit course while a student at DPS:
✅ACT Score OR the Pre-ACT Score: at least an 18 on the Reading portion
✅AccuPlacer: at least an 261 on the Reading portion
✅MAPS: Above the 40th percentile in one or more testing areas, dependent upon class needs
Additionally, seniors should meet the following minimum requirements (one or more) for the specific classes listed:
📑ENGL 1010 - College English
➡️ACT Score: at least an 18 on the Reading portion
➡️AccuPlacer: at least an 261 on the Reading portion
➡️MAPS: Above the 40th percentile in Reading
📑MATH 1150 - College Algebra & MATH 2170 - Applied Stats:
➡️ACT Score: at least a 23 on the Math portion
➡️AccuPlacer: at least an 263 on the Math portion
➡️MAPS: Above the 40th percentile in Math
📑MATH 1600 - College Geometry & Calculus:
➡️ACT Score: At least a 28 on the Math portion
➡️AccuPlacer: at least an 263 on the Math portion
➡️MAPS: Above the 40th percentile in Math
Additional dual credit classes are offered in Math and English, but the above are prerequisites to those classes.
Students are encouraged to take the ACT Test more than once. If the minimum score needed is still not attained on the ACT in order to take the dual credit class, students can take the AccuPlacer test through the Hebron Learning Center (sign up through the guidance office). The AccuPlacer is free & can be taken multiple times. The ACT is given at the school level during a student’s junior year of high school (typically in March).
If your child is close to these required scores, but don't meet the minimum score, parent(s) may sign a waiver for dual credit. PLEASE NOTE: Some dual credits are also high school graduation requirements, so signing this waiver & students failing a dual credit class could put them at risk for not meeting high school graduation requirements.
