Help us welcome Mr. Curt Thomas to the DPS staff for the 25-26 school year!
Mr. Thomas graduated from Plattsmouth High School in 1999. He attended UNL for one year, and then transferred to Doane College to play football and study History and Political Science. After earning his Bachelors Degree, he returned to earn his Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and a teaching certificate.
Mr. Thomas stated that his biggest strength is " I am a learner, so I have gone back to earn a Master of Arts in Counseling, a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and my Education Specialist Degree while working in education."
Mr. Thomas is completing his 20th year in education, and one role that he loved was school counseling. He was a school counselor at North Star High School in Lincoln and had close to 400 students on his caseload. He also served as the counseling team leader at North Star for two years prior to becoming a principal.
When asked about his family, Mr. Thomas shared:
My wife Jennifer is a 4th grade teacher in Fairbury, and she is an amazing teacher, mom, and she manages to keep us all organized and on track. We just celebrated our 20th anniversary last December. We have two children who love to be involved in the school and community.
Daughter Emery is our oldest. She will be a freshman at Fairbury in the fall. She plays softball, will be on the cheer team, and is involved in band and the musical along with a lot of other activities that keep us all busy.
Son Dalton is our youngest. He will be going into 6th grade next fall. He loves to play baseball, flag football, soccer, basketball and is involved in band and other activities in the community as well.
In Mr. Thomas' free time he enjoys going to his children's events as well as watching baseball (Go Yankees!) - both in person & on the TV. He also loves watching Husker football and working around the house and in the yard and garden. He likes to read and watch some TV and has enjoyed coaching softball and soccer for a lot of his life.
When asked, WHY DESHLER? Mr. Thomas responded with, " I am excited to be involved in the Deshler Public Schools community and build relationships with new students, staff members and families. This role will give me more time to be able to spend with my own family and pursuing interests that I did not have time for while I was a principal. I also look forward to working with students and their families and helping them plan for their lives after graduation."
Welcome, Mr. Thomas, we are excited to have you on staff!
